Visual Testing Methods

direct visual examination (using the naked eye or magnification tools), remote visual inspection (with cameras or borescopes), checking for surface flaws like cracks, porosity, incomplete penetration, undercutting, verifying proper weld size and shape, assessing joint integrity, and documenting any detected defects, all while ensuring adequate lighting and access to the weld area; tools like magnifying glasses and flashlights can be used to enhance the inspection process.

Magnetic Particle Testing

Magnetic particle inspection is an inspection method used to identify defects on the surface of ferromagnetic materials by running a magnetic current through it.

It can also be used to detect defects just beneath the surface of materials. The types of defects it can detect include cracks, pores, cold lap, and the lack of sidewall fusion in welds.

Penetrant Testing

This non-destructive testing technique, also known as liquid penetrant inspection (LPI), is a cost-effective method used to locate surface breaking flaws such as cracks, porosity, laps, seams and other surface discontinuities.
